Illustrator – Carol Bates Murray
For as long as Kentucky native, Carol Bates Murray, can remember, she has always enjoyed drawing and painting. Murray especially enjoys portraiture and landscape painting. Her favorite mediums are watercolor and acrylics, and most of her inspiration comes from her beautiful Southwest Virginia, surroundings.
During her life’s art journey, Murray has illustrated eight, published children’s books including Aristide- the Cat Who Studied Picasso by Bill Cobbs, Tweetsie Adventure by Alice Lentz, Jeffery the Jeep by Bill Dingus, Soapy Dope by Denvil Mullins, Boodro Beaver also by Mullins, Cooking with Ginger; Ginger Gets Lost by Penny Keenan, Cooking With Ginger; Cousin Tony Comes to Visit also by Keenan, and The Santa Train Tradition by Leigh Anne W. Hoover.
Murray has shown her work in a number of galleries and received many awards in a variety of art shows. She continues to hone her craft by taking classes, and she also teaches adult art classes. According to Murray, her biggest reward is being able to do what she loves and have others enjoy it, too.
Murray and husband, Willard, reside in Marion, Virginia. They have two grown children, a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and four wonderful grandchildren. Murray describes her husband as being, “understanding when inspiration hits, and knowing that sometimes paint gets on the carpet.”
